Romanian translation services

Romanian translation services Diskusija offers

Romania is one of the largest economies and consumer markets in Southeastern Europe, with a population of nearly 19 million and an EU membership dating back to 2007. Its automotive sector alone generates around a third of total exports and the country has established itself as a leading European hub for IT services and software development. For international businesses entering the Romanian market or expanding operations there, and for Romanian companies building their presence abroad, professional Romanian translation is a practical necessity — from regulatory compliance and technical documentation to software localization and commercial communication.

Diskusija delivers professional Romanian translation services across all major sectors and content types. Our Romanian translators are native speakers with proven expertise in their respective fields, and our project managers take ownership of every project from first brief to final delivery — keeping quality, terminology and timelines under control throughout.

Romanian language services we provide:

  • Romanian translation and proofreading — translation into and from Romanian across technical, legal, commercial and digital content, with independent proofreading as a separate quality stage on every project, in line with ISO 17100.
  • Localization into Romanian — full adaptation of websites, software, apps and digital products for Romanian users, covering UI adjustments, local formatting conventions and cultural relevance for the Romanian market.
  • Transcreation — when a campaign, tagline or brand narrative needs more than accurate translation to work in Romania, we adapt the content to produce the same emotional and commercial effect for a Romanian audience as the original achieves in its source market.
  • Copywriting in Romanian — original content created in Romanian by native writers for websites, campaigns, product communications, editorial material and any content that needs to read as if Romania is where it originated.
  • Romanian interpreting — consecutive and simultaneous interpreting for trade negotiations, corporate meetings, legal proceedings and conferences, delivered by Romanian interpreters with relevant sector knowledge.
  • AI/MT Romanian translation with post-editing — AI translation tools produce the initial output, a native Romanian linguist then post-edits every segment — checking accuracy, applying agreed terminology and refining register to meet the standard of fully human translation. Suitable for technical documentation, software localization and other high-volume content — certified to ISO 18587.

Do you have a Romanian project?

Let’s talk about it

Romanian translation across industries

Romania's economy is highly diversified, and the sectors that drive it each produce their own translation demands — from the high-volume technical documentation of the automotive industry to the precision-critical content of life sciences and financial services. Our Romanian translators are assigned by sector expertise, so that every project benefits from both linguistic command and genuine subject-matter knowledge.

  • Automotive Romanian translation

The automotive sector is the single largest contributor to Romania's exports, generating approximately a third of total export value. Vehicle production reached a record 550,000 units in 2024, supported by a deep supply chain of component manufacturers across the country. The transition to electric vehicles is adding new layers of documentation — from EV component specifications to battery management systems. We translate owner's manuals, in-vehicle software, engineering specifications, service and warranty documentation, homologation materials and internal communications — maintaining terminological consistency across all Romanian-language automotive content.

  • IT and software Romanian translation

Romania's IT sector contributes approximately 7% of GDP and employs around 200,000 people, with the country recognized as one of the fastest-growing ICT markets in Central and Eastern Europe. Software products built for export need localization into target-market languages, while international platforms entering Romania need Romanian-language versions that work naturally for local users. We localize software interfaces, web and mobile applications, SaaS products, e-learning platforms, help documentation and multimedia content — handling both directions with the same level of care.

  • Technical and manufacturing Romanian translation

Romania's manufacturing sector spans metals processing, electronics, machine tools and industrial equipment, with around 70% of industrial output directed to export markets. The documentation that accompanies this output is terminology-intensive, safety-critical and subject to EU regulatory standards. We translate product manuals, engineering specifications, safety data sheets, certification documentation, maintenance guides and production procedures — ensuring the Romanian content meets the same regulatory and quality standards as the source material.

  • Legal and compliance Romanian translation

As an EU member state since 2007, Romania operates within a comprehensive regulatory framework aligned with EU law. Legal translation needs span contracts, corporate governance documents, regulatory filings, court materials, compliance policies, data protection documentation and intellectual property filings. Our Romanian legal translators bring the terminological precision and formal register that legal content requires — whether the work involves translating Romanian legislation for international audiences or bringing foreign legal content into Romanian.

  • Life sciences Romanian translation

Romania's pharmaceutical and healthcare sector serves both a large domestic market and a growing medical tourism segment, with the country also hosting clinical trial activity for international pharmaceutical companies. EU regulations require that pharmaceutical products placed on the Romanian market carry Romanian-language documentation. We translate patient information leaflets, summaries of product characteristics, clinical trial documentation, medical device manuals, regulatory submissions and safety reporting — handled by translators with the specialist knowledge and regulatory awareness these materials demand.

  • Financial and fintech Romanian translation

Romania's financial sector is internationally connected, with major European banking groups active alongside domestic institutions, and a fintech segment that is growing rapidly. Financial translation needs cover terms and conditions, regulatory disclosures, investment documentation, audit reports, shareholder information and user-facing content for digital banking and insurance products. Accuracy in financial translation is a regulatory requirement and a direct signal of institutional credibility — our Romanian financial translators bring the sector expertise to deliver both.

  • Marketing and brand content in Romanian

If your brand is entering or expanding in Romania, the content that represents it needs to connect with one of the EU's largest consumer markets on its own terms. Our native Romanian marketing linguists will work with you to identify the right approach: translation for content that carries across naturally, transcreation where a campaign or tagline needs to be reshaped for the market, and original Romanian copywriting where the content should be created fresh.

How we deliver Romanian translation

Every Romanian translation project at Diskusija is handled by native Romanian linguists and managed through a structured process that puts quality at the centre — from the way we set up a project to the way we check it before delivery.

  • Your dedicated project manager

Your project manager owns the project from the first conversation to the moment of delivery. They analyse what you need, identify the right approach and build a team around your brief — selecting translators by sector, setting up terminology resources and agreeing timelines before work starts. Throughout the project they coordinate, track and resolve — keeping you involved only where your input is needed. Diskusija's project management is certified to ISO 9001: a commitment to client satisfaction, continuous improvement and proactive risk management across every engagement.

  • Native Romanian translators with sector expertise

Every Romanian project is handled by a native speaker whose professional background covers the content domain: automotive documentation to an automotive specialist, pharmaceutical content to a life sciences translator, legal material to a legal linguist. All our Romanian translators are native speakers — and matching the right translator to the right content is where quality starts.

  • Translation memory: consistency across your content

On every Romanian project we build and maintain a translation memory that stores each translated segment and applies it wherever matching content appears — within the same project or across future ones. The practical effect: your Romanian content stays consistent across every document, and as the translation memory grows, a rising share of content is reused — which directly reduces both cost and turnaround time.

  • Terminology management

Your organisation has its own vocabulary, and it needs to appear the same way in every Romanian document you publish. For larger and continuous projects, we build a dedicated Romanian glossary with you before translation begins — capturing each agreed term and applying it consistently through every translation and review stage. The glossary is maintained and expanded as your Romanian content grows.

  • AI/MT translation with post-editing

For high-volume Romanian content — large technical documentation sets, software localization files or regulatory material — we offer AI/MT translation with native post-editing. AI tools handle the initial output; a native Romanian linguist then reviews every segment, correcting errors, applying the agreed glossary and bringing the result to the standard of fully human translation. Certified to ISO 18587.

  • Multi-layer quality assurance

Each Romanian project follows a structured QA process: translation by a sector-matched native linguist, independent editing and proofreading as separate stages, automated QA checks for terminology consistency, formatting integrity and completeness, and a final project manager review against the original brief. For large-scale or high-stakes projects, AI-assisted QA provides an additional systematic pass across the full content set.

About the Romanian language and market

Romania has been a member of the European Union since 2007. The country has a population of approximately 19 million and uses its own currency, the Romanian leu (RON). Romania's economy is the twelfth-largest in the EU by nominal GDP, with a GDP of approximately $423 billion in 2024. The economy is highly diversified: the automotive sector generates around a third of total exports, the IT sector contributes approximately 7% of GDP, and manufacturing, financial services, construction and retail all play significant roles. Germany is Romania's largest trading partner, accounting for approximately 23% of exports. Total exports reached approximately $109 billion in 2025. Romania is also a regional leader in electronics production, mobile technology and information security.

Romanian — limba română — is an Eastern Romance language and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. It is spoken by approximately 22–24 million people as a first language, primarily in Romania and Moldova, where it is the official language (referred to as Moldovan in Moldova's constitution, though linguistically identical). Significant Romanian-speaking communities also exist in Italy, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Israel, largely as a result of emigration. Romanian is also recognized as a minority language in Serbia, Hungary, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

A short note on the language itself

Romanian is the only major Romance language spoken in Eastern Europe and the most direct descendant of Latin among the Romance languages, having preserved features — such as the neuter gender and a case system for nouns — that French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese have lost. Romanian uses the Latin alphabet extended with five special characters: ă, â, î, ș and ț. While Romanian shares much of its core vocabulary and grammar with other Romance languages, its development in geographic isolation from the Western Romance world and in close contact with Slavic, Hungarian, Turkish and Greek neighbours has given it a distinctive vocabulary layer that includes significant Slavic, Ottoman and Greek-origin elements. For translation buyers, this means that while Romanian may look approachable to speakers of other Romance languages, professional translation requires native Romanian expertise to handle the language's specific grammar, register expectations and terminological conventions accurately. Every Romanian translation project at Diskusija is assigned to a native Romanian translator.
